Painting CMSSL commissioned for Michael F. Neidorff by artist Stefan Geissbühler READ The St Louis Community and the country has lost a great philanthropist. Michael F. Neidorff passed away here in St. Louis. Michael and Noémi Neidorff have been great friends and supporters of the Chamber from our very early days. From the 9 straight years before COVID of hosting our annual Donor Appreciation Concert in Centene Plaza to a transformative multi-year financial commitment, they both loved and believed in the power of music. Their commitment to the arts and music in particular has made St. Louis a better place to live. From the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra to Opera Theatre of St. Louis to Radio Arts Foundation-Classic 107.3 to Chamber Music Society of St. Louis and so many others, we are indebted to Michael and the Neidorff family. I will never forget the wisdom Michael imparted to me in 2010, early in my tenure as Executive & Artistic Director of CMSSL. In a meeting with this visionary leader in his office, he gave me a version of the give someone a fish and they eat for a day…….teach them to fish and they eat for a lifetime philosophy. Our friend, former Clayton Mayor Harold Sanger, called Michael a “magnificent human being.” To say that Michael will be missed is a monumental understatement. As we wind down the 2021-22 Centene Charitable Foundation Chamber Concert Series, we keep Michael and the Neidorff family in our thoughts. CLICK HERE for some information about Michael.

Your Choices… Mostly

Greetings All: We are staring down the last few concerts of Season 13 for Chamber Music Society of St. Louis. The Monday/Tuesday “It’s Still All About You” concert pair brings back the theme started last year in our partnership with Radio Arts Foundation-Classic 107.3 where you decided the repertoire……this time with some caveats. The winning compositions made a program that would have been almost 3 hours long. Therefore, we decided to split them into 2 separate concerts. “It’s Still All About You” Part 1 will feature Brahms String Sextet #2 in G major. The winning piece on this program from the piano and winds category would have been Beethoven’s Quintet for Piano and Winds. Given some monumental difficulties, we have had to postpone the Beethoven for another time. However, I think you will be delighted to hear the replacement, which is pianist Brian Woods performing Chopin’s 3rd Piano Sonata. An amazing work with an absolutely dazzling finale. Julie Schuster, Morning Host from our partners at Classic 107.3, will join me onstage to share the music with you this week and again for “It’s Still All About You” Part B later in the month. For this Monday/Tuesday Part 1, Ann Fink, Kyle Lombard, Leo Plashinov, Andrew François, Yin Xiong and Alvin McCall will play the warm and lush Brahms Sextet. The Prelude feature will begin the evening with the Peccatte Quartet, students from our Young Artist Chamber Program. Violinists Micaela Chyu, Nathan Bronstein, violist Delia Zacks and cellist Rachel Li will perform the 1st movement from a Haydn string quartet. For tickets, call CMSSL at 314-941-6309 or online from MetroTix. Please join Julie and me on Monday or Tuesday at 7:30 pm to enjoy the music you chose and the wonderful young musicians of the Peccatte Quartet. All the best, Marc
