Cultural Equity

The Chamber Music Society of St. Louis (CMSSL) believe that the universal language of music should resonate with people from all backgrounds and experiences. We are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment that reflects the richness of our community and inspires creativity, collaboration and originality. That diversity not only refers to race, gender and ethnicity, but also age, sexual orientation, socio-economic background and religion.

We will maintain and expand our already diverse group of artists and we are constantly expanding our repertoire to ensure that our audiences are experience composers from a variety of cultures and perspectives. We pledge to continue and expand our collaborations with community organizations for performances and with schools that serve underrepresented populations through our education programs to make classical music more accessible and relevant.

CMSSL will continue to provide an equitable environment where all individuals feel safe, respected, valued, and engaged allowing fair opportunities for everyone in our organization. We recognize the barriers that exist in classical music and will remain faithful to providing equal access to employment, our educational programs, and performances.

Chamber Music Society of St. Louis is committed to employing the power of music to bring people together and to creating a community that is inclusive, representative, and equitable for all. We understand that this is an ongoing journey, and we are committed to continuous learning and growth as we strive to make classical music a force for positive social change.
